배윤상 교수는 연세대학교 화학공학과에서 흡착분리공정을 세부전공으로 하여 “Strategies for Improving the Performance of Four-zone Simulated Moving Bed Process”라는 논문제목으로 2006년 박사학위를 받았습니다. 박사학위 후 2006년 말부터 2010년 5월까지는 Northwestern University에서 Post-doctoral Scholar로 재직하였고, 2010년 6월부터는 동일 기관에서 Research Professor로 임용이 되어 2012년 1월까지 활발히 연구를 수행하였습니다. Northwestern University에서 재직하는 동안에는 metal-organic framework(MOF) 라는 새로운 나노기공체를 이용한 CO2 분리/포집, 올레핀/파라핀 분리, 수소 저장 등의 연구를 수행하였고, 이를 위해 재료 합성, 흡착 실험, 분자 모사 등 다양한 연구 기법들을 활용하였습니다. 현재 관심 분야는 CO2 분리/포집 및 에너지 저장 등 에너지/환경 관련 응용을 위한 나노기공체 개발입니다.
