제 1회 ‘올해의 여성 과학기술자상’(공학부분, 2001년)을 수상하신 바 있는 김은경 교수님은 1990년 University of Houston에서 박사학위를 취득하셨고 그 이후 2년간 같은 곳에서 객원조교수로 계셨습니다. 귀국 하신 후 한국화학연구소에서 12년간 화학소재부의 연구원으로 계셨으며 2001년부터는 광전기능성소재연구팀장, 2003년부터 연세대학교에 오시기 전까지 화학소재부 부장 등을 역임하셨습니다. 2004년 9월부터 연세대학교 화공생명공학과에서 강의를 시작하셨습니다.
그 동안 전도성 고분자, 광정보처리용 폴리머변색소재, 광 소자용 폴리머, 엘라스토머 나노복합재 및 3차원 정보기록용 photopolymer 개발에 중점을 두어 연구하셨고 그 결과 변색성 및 광전도성 폴리머소재 합성과 광에 의한 형광, 굴절률, 전도성제어기술 그리고 전고체형 전기변색소자, 복합기능 다층막제조, 광스위치 스위치 소재 등에 대한 연구 성과를 올리셨습니다. 그 중 폴리머 스위치 소재 기술은 광, 전기 등과 같은 자극에 의해 신호의 표시, 기록, 전달 등에 사용되는 소재로서 특히 광소자, 정보 및 전자 산업 등 광범위한 분야에 응용 될 것으로 예상됩니다.
앞으로의 연구에서는 광전-스위칭이 가능한 multi-state multifunctional polymer를 중심으로 소재의 설계 및 조합화학을 이용한 복합소재의 합성, 분자구조-스위칭 특성 상관관계의 정립, 유기정보 소재의 가공기술 및 응용을 개발 하고자 하십니다.
